1. Abram calling where everything starts

Gen 12:1-3: Now the Lord had said to Abram: Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all families of the earth shall be blessed.

Gen 13:14-17: And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are, northward, southward, eastward and westward; for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever. And I wil make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered.

Gen 15:1-18: Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” And he believed in the Lord, and he accounted it to him for righteousness.

Covenant of blood

It is a mutual pact between persons, permanent, indissoluble, irrevocable, which two persons associate themselves. They kill an offering animal, cut in two halves, place in the ground the two pieces, the two persons passed in between joining hands, repeating the terms of the covenant which had the meaning of:
Indissoluble: the one who breaks the pact shall die
Unchangeable: the dead halves mean the partners are dead for changes in the terms of the covenant

Changing names:

Gen 17:4-8: As for me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations. 5“No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations.

Gen 17:15-21: 15Then God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name. 16“And I will bless her and also give you a son by her; then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall be from her.” 17Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?” 18And Abraham said to God, “Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!” 19Then God said: “No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him. 20“And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall beget twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation. 21“But My covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this set time next year.”

Exo 3:15: Moreover God said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’

Testing the covenant:

Gen 22:1-18: Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.

Heb 11:17-19: By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, 18of whom it was said, “In Isaac your seed shall be called,” 19concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense.

2. Objectives of creating Israel as a nation

  1. To receive and preserve the word of God, the Scriptures: Rom 3:1-2
  2. Testimony for all nations about the existence of a Living God: Isa 43:10-12
  3. People from whom the Messiah would be born: John 4:22
  4. Importance of Israel:
Rom 9:3-5: who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises; of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen.
Exo 4:22: Thus says the LORD: “Israel is My son, My firstborn.
Exo 19:5-6: Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. 6‘And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation

3. God has never rejected Israel

Rom 3:3-4:
 Rom 11:1-2:
 Rom 11:25-32:
2 Sam 7:12-16:
 Isa 43:1-7:

Jer 31:31-37: “But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34“No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

4. Diaspora or Dispersion

Deut 4:23-31: Take heed to yourselves, lest you forget the covenant of the LORD your God which He made with you, and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of anything which the LORD your God has forbidden you. 24“For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
25“When you beget children and grandchildren and have grown old in the land, and act corruptly and make a carved image in the form of anything, and do evil in the sight of the LORD your God to provoke Him to anger, 26“I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that you will soon utterly perish from the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess; you will not prolong your days in it, but will be utterly destroyed. 27“And the LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations where the LORD will drive you. 28“And there you will serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell. 29“But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul. 30“When you are in distress, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, when you turn to the LORD your God and obey His voice 31‘(for the LORD your God is a merciful God), He will not forsake you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them.

5. The blessings from Abraham to the people

Rom 4:7-17: Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; blessed the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin…and he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while still uncircumcised, that he might be the father of all those who believe…

Gal 3:6-8: just as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham before hand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed”

Gal 3:13-14: Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us(for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Gal 3:28-29: There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female;
For you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
