Dan.9:20-27: Seventy weeks are determined for your people and for your holy city… Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince, there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublesome times. And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; and the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, and till the end of the war desolations are determined. Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate.”

The angel Gabriel is a kind of minister of communication from Heaven to man, bringing very important revelations (to Daniel about God’s calendar to bring righteousness, to Zacharias about John the Baptist and to Mary about Jesus).

  • Nebuchadnezzar had a vision about the nations; Daniel has a vision about his people, Israel.
  • Seventy weeks: Lev 25:8-10: and you shall count seven Sabbaths of years for yourself, seven times seven years
  • 2 Chron 36:20-21: to fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her Sabbaths
  • Jer 29:10: After seventy years are completed at Babylon, I will visit and perform my good word toward you..
  • Gen 29:26-28: fulfill her week, and we will give you this one also for the service which you will serve with me still another seven years. (another example of week meaning seven years)
  • Seventy weeks = 70 x 7 years = 490 years for your people (Israel) and for your holy city (Jerusalem)
  • To finish the transgression, make an end of sins, make reconciliation for iniquity, bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy: when the Kingdom of our Lord is established on earth (Dan 7:13-14)
  • Start: Nehemiah 2:1-8: order from king Artaxerxes to rebuild Jerusalem
  • History: March.14 of 445 BC
  • 7 sevens: 7 x 7 years = 49 years to rebuild Jerusalem
  • 62 sevens: 62 x 7 = 434 years more for the Messiah the Prince (Jesus as Messiah entering the city)
  • Luke 19:28-42: Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord
  • Zec 9:9: Behold, your King is coming to you; he is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey
  • That event probably happened on 6.April.32 AD; that day completed 62 + 7 = 69 sevens = 483 years total; still missing 7 years. After the Messiah should be cut off and the people of the prince (Romans) who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.
  • Year 70 AD the Romans under the command of Titus destroyed Jerusalem and the temple.
  • The final seven years starts in verse 27 with a covenant for seven years: this is the peace treaty between the antichrist (the beast) and the world.

2 Thess 2:1-12: Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. ..7For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 8And then the lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. 9The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11And for this reason God will send them strong delusion that they should believe the lie, 12that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

The prince who is to come (Dan 9:26) is the same person of 2 Thess called there man of sin and son of perdition who is the antichrist, a beast rising up out of the sea (from Rev 13:1). He establishes a peace treaty for one week (seven years); the Temple in Jerusalem is rebuilt and that allows the Jews to bring sacrifices and offerings; but in the middle of the week he brings an end to sacrifice by doing something against the Moses Law in the Temple mentioned as “abomination of desolation” Mat 24:15 and Dan 12:11.
