1. The book of Revelation can be divided into three different moments:

Rev 1:19: Write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after this.

Chapter 1: Presenting Jesus Christ glorified

Chapter 2 & 3: Historical sequence of the church on earth

Rev 4:1: After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven…come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.

Chapter 4 to 22: events that will take place after the rapture: tribulation, second coming, judgment of the nations, millennium, white throne judgment, new heavens and earth

2. The way of communicating

Rev 1:1-2: God the Father to Jesus, Jesus to the angel, the angel to John, John to the church

3. The revelation of the Holy Spirit

Rev 1:4: Grace to you and peace from…the seven Spirits who are before his throne.

Isa 11:1-2: The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him; the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

Rev 4:5: and from the throne proceeded lightnings, thundering and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

4. The revelation of Jesus Christ

Rev 1:5-6: and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To him who love us and washed us from our sins in his own blood, and has made us kingdom and priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominium forever and ever. Amen.

The faithful witness: Jesus was faithful with his life without sin, with the words that came out of his mouth, with the miracles performed by the power of the Spirit and with his obedience to death, and death of cross.

The firstborn from the dead: speaks about his resurrection

The ruler over the kings: speaks about his glorification as King of all the earth

The one who love us (present), washed us from our sins (past), made us kingdom and priests

Rev 1:8;11: I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last…the Almighty

Amen: see 2 Cor 1:20 and Rev 3:14: the Faithful and True Witness

Rev 1:13-18: one like the Son of Man

5. The revelation of the glorified church

Rev 4:4;9-11: Around the throne were twenty four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads.

Elders: bishops or presbyterians, the mature leaders of the church (see Acts 15:2-6; Acts 20:17; 1 Tim 5:17; Titus 1:5; 1 Pet 5:1-4); the presence of elders has a real meaning in the church, but not much for Israel

The scene is before the end of tribulation, therefore Israel cannot be fully represented in the throne room

Rev 3:5;21: He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments…I will grant to sit with me on my throne (see also 1 Cor 6:2-3)

Rev 4:6-7: Four living creatures: like a lion (Messiah of Israel, King, Matthews); like a Calf (sacrifice animal, servant, Mark); like a man (son of man, Jesus humanity, Luke); like a flying eagle (son of God, divinity, John)

6. The all written and sealed scroll

Rev 5:1-8: And I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals…Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.

When the first seal is loosen, the judgment on earth starts; when the seventh seal is loosen the seven trumpets judgment starts; when the seventh trumpet sounds, it is declared that the kingdoms of the world have become the kingdoms of our Lord (Rev 11:15). In the seventh trumpet there are seven golden bowls.

Jer 32:6-12: and I signed the deed and sealed it, took witnesses, and weighed the money on the scales. So I took the purchased deed, both that which was sealed according to the law…

The scroll contains the legal rights for Jesus to possess the earth and rein upon; it also contains the conditions to be fulfilled in order to have the legitimate heir taking possession. The conditions are the judgments, the “make even” between God and men, and then the glorious Kingdom can be implanted.

The Lamb is a title used 28 times in this book; the only lamb that was sacrificed and left alive

Golden bowls full of incense: the importance of the prayers of the saints

Rev chapters 1 to 5 is a preparation for the entire book which is revealing important details of the tribulation, judgment of the nations, millennium and eternal state.
